Release 8.1 of Teiid Designer provides users the ability to develop and test your VDBs against an JBoss AS 7.1 platform as well as an AS 5.1 instance.  This feature allows managing your older VDB artifacts and provides a mechanism to migrate and test your data services on the newer server version.

Along with this multi-server support feature, the 8.1 release also includes a complete set of new relational object wizards which provides a more flexible set of tools for designing relational views and procedures and introduces a new import feature that retrieves relational DDL metadata from your deployed data sources through your Teiid server connection.

Note that Installation has changed slightly and requires some additional JBoss tools plugin as described below.

Installation

Teiid Designer was designed and built as a set of Eclipse plugins written in Java.

Teiid Designer 8.0 can be installed into Eclipse from either:

Step 1: Install Eclipse IDE.

  • NOTE: If installing on Windows, you will need to run eclipse using a 32 bit JVM. 

Step 2: Install JBoss Tools AS feature into your Eclipse environment

     Option A: Update Site Archive

  • Download JBoss Tools 4.0 onto your local file system:    http://sourceforge.net/projects/jboss/files/JBossTools/JBossTools4.0.x/jbosstools-4.0.0.Final.aggregate-Update-2012-12-06_13-22-08-B136.zip
  • Select Help > Install New Software... action from main menu
  • Select Add ... button
  • Enter unique name (example: Teiid Designer 8.0), select Archive... option to browse and select zip file you just downloaded. Select OK.
  • Open the new update site in the tree, expand the Abridged JBoss Tools 4.0 folder and select the JBossAS Tools feature.
  • Select Next >
    • If additional plugins are required, a license agreement may be displayed. If so, select "I accept..." and click Finish
  • When installation is complete you will be prompted to re-launch Eclipse to insure the new features are fully operational.

     Option B: Update Site URL

  • Select Help > Install New Software... action from main menu
  • Select Available Software tab
  • Enter the URL:  http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/development/juno in the "Work with" entry field and hit Enter.
  • Open the new update site in the tree, expand the Abridged JBoss Tools 4.0 folder and select the JBossAS Tools feature.
  • Select Next >
    • If additional plugins are required, a license agreement may be displayed. If so, select "I accept..." and click Finish
  • When installation is complete you will be prompted to re-launch Eclipse to insure the new features are fully operational.

Step 3: Install Designer into your Eclipse environment

     Option A: Update Site Archive

  • Download Teiid Designer 8.0 onto your local file system:    http://download.jboss.org/teiid/designer/8.0/teiid-designer-8.0.0.Final-v20121212-1505-H1987.zip
  • Select Help > Install New Software... action from main menu
  • Select Add ... button
  • Enter unique name (example: Teiid Designer 8.0), select Archive... option to browse and select zip file you just downloaded. Select OK.
  • Open the new update site in the tree and select the Data Services feature.
  • Expand the tree and de-select the "Teiid Designer Test" feature.
  • Select Next >
    • If additional plugins are required, a license agreement may be displayed. If so, select "I accept..." and click Finish
  • When installation is complete you will be prompted to re-launch Eclipse to insure the new features are fully operational.

     Option B: Update Site URL (not available for 6.x & 7.x releases)

  • Select Help > Install New Software... action from main menu
  • Select Available Software tab
  • Enter the URL:  http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/release/juno/soa-tooling/teiiddesigner/8.0.0.Final/ in the "Work with" entry field and hit Enter.
  • Select the Data Services feature.
  • Expand the tree and de-select the "Teiid Designer Test" feature.
  • Select Next >
    • If additional plugins are required, a license agreement may be displayed. If so, select "I accept..." and click Finish
  • When installation is complete you will be prompted to re-launch Eclipse to insure the new features are fully operational.
