About the project
What is GateIn ?
GateIn is a set of projects revolving aroung the main project called "GateIn Portal".
GateIn portal is a merge of two mature projects that have been around for a while, JBoss Portal and eXo Portal. It takes the best of both into a single new project. The aim is to provide both an intuitive portal to use as-is and a portal framework to build upon depending on your needs.
Why should I use GateIn ?
Two companies are backing up the development of GateIn (on top of committers) from two different point of views. On one hand JBoss is specialist in middleware and was able to deliver a scalable portal with enterprise integration needs in mind, on the other end eXo was able to produce a full fledge solution on top of their portal. Either you are looking for a portal solution out of the box or a framework to build on top the separation of the concerns should make you feel at ease. The team in charge of the framework are making sure that the fundations are solid, ready to scale and be customizable. Building a framework like this is better done when challenged by users and customers (JBoss and eXo Portals has several years of experience) but also by providing its own solution on top.
The modularity of the project let you easily remove pieces that are not required for your needs, it is usually as simple as adding/removing archives from deployment.
Also, the project is open source under the business friendly LGPL license.
Why should I contribute ?
The more we are the merrier :) Also for any inclusion of code you import in the project we will make sure together that it is still working in the next versions of the project.
What's next ?
A lot ! Now that we gathered forces we will be able to grow faster on both directions, for the benefit of our users and EPP customers.
